Do you work with owners in Austin on a video call?

Yes. We keep the same close for an owner in Austin as we keep for every other owner, and the meeting is that video call. Owners who work in Austin open the call, look at the same file, and pick a slot from the book page. The close lands on the same named day either way. A letter can ride in that same note, and we will say on the call which of the two we open first.

The opening screen says the same arrangement in the language of the work. A finished month is the one the bank will support. Setup is as far as payday goes here, and the provider already chosen keeps the run. Tax forms are drafted from those finished months. That monthly work sits with Steven Palmieri, who holds the Tax CFO role and the Entrepreneur's CFO role for this practice.

Will you run payday?

No. Payday here is setup only. We line up registrations and the accounts the result should hit. The provider you chose runs payday. Each month the provider's report has to tie to the cash that left the bank, or the month stays open. If you need a firm that operates the payroll itself, say so on the call and we will tell you this is the wrong product.

Changing providers mid-year is ordinary. The setup notes the last date the old provider ran and the first date the new one will run, so a person is not paid twice and a tax deposit is not missed between the two. That note is part of the close for the month of the change.

Can you start the return while the year is still open?

We can list what the return will need, and we can sketch a range once most months tie. We will not type open months into the form as finished figures. An outline is useful. A filed return built on open months is how notices start.

If you are staring at a deadline, the useful move is to close the latest month the bank can support and to list what is still open, in amounts. An extension, when one is available, is then a choice rather than a fog. We will say which of those is true for the notice or the date you actually have.

What do you refuse to sign?

The three reports we leave unsigned are an audit, a review, and a compilation, because each one needs a license this practice does not hold. The full writing of that boundary lives on the disclosures page, and that writing wins if two pages ever seem to disagree. Statements with no report, a monthly close, payday setup, and a prepared return are the work these pages describe.

We also refuse to invent a number the bank cannot support. If a year needs a guess, the guess is labeled and you decide whether to use it. Unlabeled guesses do not leave this practice.

How do we start?

Put the stubborn month in the form, or open the calendar and choose a slot. The first call is a conversation. It does not hire the practice. Money changes hands only after a written scope and a fee are signed by both sides. Before that signature, either side may walk away, and your records stay with you.

Bring the last statement that already ties, if you have one, and the name of the payday provider if you have one. If you have neither, bring the worry in a sentence. We would rather start from a true mess than from a file someone decorated for the meeting.

People also ask whether a relative who is good with a spreadsheet is enough. Sometimes yes. The test is whether last month ties and whether anyone can explain the leftover lines without opening a second version of the file. If the answer is a shrug, the spreadsheet is a diary, not a close. We can work beside that relative, take the close from them, or tell you to keep them and call us only at filing time. The wrong move is to add another login and hope the shrug goes away.

Another question is timing. You do not need a crisis, and you do not need a perfect year, to start. A single finished month teaches both sides whether the fit is real. If the fit is wrong we will say so after that month rather than after a long contract. The form on this page is the shortest way to put the question in our hands.
